Terms of Service
ZappoPDF is free, runs on your own device, and comes with no warranty. These terms set out what that means for both of us.
1. Accepting these terms
By using ZappoPDF (the “Service”) you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. If you are using ZappoPDF on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms for that organisation.
2. What the service is
ZappoPDF is a free collection of document tools delivered as a static website. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript executed on your own device. We do not receive, store or process your files on any server. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
There is no account, no subscription and no payment. Nothing in these terms creates an obligation on us to provide support, uptime, or any particular tool for any particular period.
3. Your files and your responsibility
You keep all rights in the documents you process. Because those documents never reach us, we acquire no licence, ownership or interest in them whatsoever.
You are solely responsible for:
- having the legal right to process each file you use with the Service;
- keeping your own backups — a tool that produces an unexpected result will not have altered your original file, but you should still keep one;
- verifying the output before you rely on it, particularly for anything contractual, financial, legal or medical;
- understanding that some operations are irreversible by design. Flattening a PDF, compressing it at Medium or Strong, and scrubbing metadata all discard information permanently.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use ZappoPDF to:
- process material you have no right to process, including infringing, stolen or unlawfully obtained documents;
- create forged, fraudulent or deliberately misleading documents, including falsified signatures, records, receipts or identity documents;
- remove metadata, watermarks or other markings in order to conceal the origin of material you do not own or to facilitate infringement;
- break, probe or circumvent any technical protection on a document you are not authorised to access;
- attack, overload or interfere with the website or the infrastructure serving it, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it;
- redistribute the Service as your own commercial product in a way that misrepresents its origin;
- do anything unlawful under the law that applies to you.
Because processing is local, we have no technical means of monitoring or blocking what you do with these tools. This section is a statement of the terms on which the Service is offered, and the responsibility for compliance is entirely yours.
5. Availability and changes
The Service is provided on an “as available” basis. We may add, change, suspend or remove any tool or feature at any time, with or without notice, and we may discontinue the Service entirely. Since everything runs locally and nothing of yours is stored with us, a change or shutdown will not put any of your data at risk.
6. Intellectual property
The ZappoPDF name, logo, interface design, written content and original source code are owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. You may use the Service as intended. You may not present our branding as your own, or imply that we endorse or are affiliated with your product.
Nothing here restricts your rights in the files you process, which remain entirely yours.
7. Third-party components
ZappoPDF is built on open-source software, including pdf-lib and JSZip (MIT licence) and PDF.js (Apache 2.0 licence). Those components are governed by their own licences, and we are grateful for them. Their authors provide no warranty in respect of your use of this Service, and neither do we.
8. No warranty
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
In plain terms: PDF is a large and inconsistently implemented format, and some documents in the wild are unusual or malformed. We do not promise that every tool will work correctly on every file, that output will preserve every visual detail of the original, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Always check the result before relying on it.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ZappoPDF and anyone involved in producing it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service — even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us to use it, which is zero, and (b) USD 50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ZappoPDF and its operators from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of the rights of any third party.
11. Termination
These terms apply for as long as you use the Service. You end them by ceasing to use it. We may block access to the website in response to abuse of the infrastructure. Sections 3, 6, and 8–13 survive any termination.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of ZappoPDF is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence. Contact us through the contact page if you need this confirmed in writing for a specific matter.
13. General
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force and the unenforceable provision is applied to the greatest extent permitted. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them as part of a transfer of the Service. Together with the Privacy Policy, these terms are the entire agreement between us regarding the Service.
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change and continued use after that constitutes acceptance of the updated version.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms: use the contact page and choose the legal topic. Everything else goes through the same form.
These terms are written to be readable rather than exhaustive, and they are not legal advice. If you operate ZappoPDF commercially or within an organisation, have them reviewed by a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.
